Irish Flag Trifle in Mason Jars

These will be an adorable addition to your dessert table!

Ingredients

  • 2 boxes white cake mix
  • green, red, and yellow food coloring
  • Philadelphia cream cheese ready-made cheese cake filling
  • 3 cans Mandarin oranges (save the juice)

Preparation

Mix the cake according to package instructions. Once the batter is ready, separate it into three bowls with an equal amount of batter in each bowl. Leave one bowl the original color of the batter (white). In another bowl, add a few drops of green food coloring, just until it turns a nice green color. In the last bowl, combine a few drops of yellow and red food coloring to make an orange batter.

Bake each batter color separately. You can use muffin tins, cake pans, or whatever vessel you want. Since we will be breaking the cake apart, it doesn't matter what shape you bake it in.

Once the three color cakes are ready, cool on a wire rack and prepare workspace for assembly.

Have your mason jars ready, take out your cheese cake filling and begin layering your trifle. First, use the orange color cake for the bottom layer. Then add the mandarin orange on top. Follow with your first layer of cheesecake. Next, add the white cake on top and follow with your second layer of cheesecake. Last, add your green cake, then pour some of the mandarin oranges juice on top, to soften the cake layers. Top off with your last layer of cheesecake.

Presentation

Layer this trifle in mason jars for individual servings. Or, make a large trifle in a large trifle bowl. You can also add other fruits to this trifle like pineapples, kiwi, bananas, and any other fruit that matches the flag colors.
